Onboarding Walkthrough

A detailed guide to the WorkClaw onboarding flow -- profile setup, team creation, Claw configuration, phone settings, and inviting teammates.

What happens during onboarding?

When you first sign up for WorkClaw, a guided onboarding flow walks you through the essential setup steps. Each step is designed to get you productive as quickly as possible while ensuring your agent is configured to work the way you need it to.

How does profile setup work?

The first step is your personal profile. WorkClaw asks for:

  • Display name -- how you appear to teammates and how your Claw addresses you.
  • Profile photo -- optional, but helps teammates identify you in shared spaces.
  • Contact preferences -- how you want to receive notifications and updates.

Your profile is tied to your account, not a specific team, so it carries across every team you join.

How do I create or join a team?

After completing your profile, you will either create a new team or accept an existing invitation.

Creating a team:

  1. Enter a team name (you can change it later).
  2. You are assigned the Owner role automatically.
  3. WorkClaw provisions a System Claw for the team -- your shared, ready-to-use AI agent.

Joining a team:

  1. Click the invite link sent by a teammate.
  2. You join with the Member role (the inviter can adjust this later).
  3. You immediately have access to any team-scoped Claws and connections.

See Teams for a full breakdown of roles.

How does initial Claw setup work?

Once your team is created, WorkClaw walks you through setting up your first Claw. This includes:

  • Name and identity -- give your Claw a name and optional domain context (e.g., "Marketing Assistant" or "Executive Support").
  • Operating instructions -- high-level guidance for how the Claw should behave. These are stored in the workspace's AGENTS.md file and can be updated at any time.
  • Personality and tone -- configure the Claw's communication style via the SOUL.md file. Options range from professional and concise to friendly and conversational.

You do not need to finalize these settings during onboarding. The defaults are sensible, and every option can be changed later in Agent Configuration.

How do I configure phone and communication settings?

WorkClaw supports SMS and voice communication through your Claw. During onboarding, you can optionally:

  • Add a phone number for SMS-based interactions.
  • Set communication preferences for how your Claw drafts and sends messages.
  • Enable ClawMail so your Claw can send emails on your behalf, with approval required before anything goes out.

These settings are all optional during onboarding and can be configured later from the settings page.

How do I invite teammates?

The final onboarding step prompts you to invite colleagues. You can:

  • Send email invitations -- enter email addresses and WorkClaw sends an invite link.
  • Copy a shareable link -- paste it into Slack, email, or any messaging tool.
  • Assign roles -- choose whether invitees join as Admin or Member. Admins can manage Claws and team settings; Members can use Claws but not modify team-level configuration.

You can skip this step and invite people later from the Team settings page. There is no limit on when invitations can be sent.

What happens after onboarding?

Once onboarding is complete, you land on your WorkClaw dashboard. From here you can:

  • Start chatting with your System Claw immediately.
  • Browse and install Skills to expand your Claw's capabilities.
  • Set up Connections to integrate your existing tools.
  • Explore ClawMail, Tasks, and other features.

Every setting from onboarding is accessible from the sidebar, so you can revisit and refine your setup at any time.
