Agent Configuration
Learn how to configure your WorkClaw Claws — from identity and personality to operating instructions and memory settings.
What is agent configuration?
Agent configuration is how you shape a Claw's behavior, identity, and knowledge. Every Claw in WorkClaw can be independently configured so it acts the way your team needs — whether that means a formal executive assistant, a casual research helper, or a technical support specialist.
Where do I configure a Claw?
Open the Claw you want to configure and click the Settings icon in the header. The configuration panel is organized into four sections, each covered in detail on its own page.
What can I configure?
Identity
Identity settings define who your Claw is to the outside world. Set a name, job title, email address, phone number, Slack handle, and avatar. These details appear in outgoing emails, Slack messages, and anywhere the Claw introduces itself.
Operating Instructions
Operating instructions are written in a file called AGENTS.md that lives inside the Claw's workspace. This is where you tell the Claw what to do, how to prioritize tasks, what tools to prefer, and any company-specific procedures to follow.
Personality and Tone
Personality settings are defined in SOUL.md. This file controls the Claw's vibe — how it writes, how it speaks, and the emotional qualities it conveys. You might want one Claw to be concise and professional while another is warm and encouraging.
Memory
Memory configuration determines how a Claw retains and recalls information across conversations. You can enable long-term memory, set retention policies, and decide what the Claw should remember versus forget.
Do team defaults apply?
Yes. If your team has set default Claw configuration, new Claws inherit those defaults automatically. You can override any default on a per-Claw basis from the configuration panel.
