Slack Workspace Setup
Install the WorkClaw app in your Slack workspace with step-by-step instructions for OAuth authorization, permissions, and initial configuration.
What do I need before starting?
Before installing the WorkClaw Slack app, ensure you have:
- WorkClaw Owner or Admin role -- only Owners and Admins can initiate the Slack integration. See Roles & Permissions.
- Slack workspace admin access -- a Slack workspace administrator must approve the OAuth consent screen during installation.
- An active Claw -- you need at least one configured Claw in your workspace to route Slack messages to.
How do I install the WorkClaw Slack app?
- Navigate to Settings > Integrations > Slack in the WorkClaw dashboard.
- Click Connect to Slack. This opens the Slack OAuth consent screen.
- Select the Slack workspace you want to connect. If you manage multiple workspaces, choose carefully -- each WorkClaw team connects to one workspace.
- Review the requested permissions and click Allow. A Slack workspace admin must perform this step.
- WorkClaw confirms the connection and redirects you back to the dashboard.
The WorkClaw bot user now appears in your Slack workspace's app directory.
What permissions does WorkClaw request?
WorkClaw requests the following OAuth scopes:
chat:write-- post messages as the bot user.channels:historyandgroups:history-- read messages in bound channels to understand context.im:historyandim:read-- receive and read direct messages.users:read-- resolve Slack user identities to match WorkClaw team members.commands-- register slash commands if enabled.
WorkClaw does not request admin scopes or access to channels that are not explicitly bound.
How do I verify the connection is working?
After installation, return to Settings > Integrations > Slack. You should see a green "Connected" badge with your workspace name. To test, open Slack and send a direct message to the WorkClaw bot. If DM routing is configured, your Claw should respond.
How do I disconnect Slack?
Navigate to Settings > Integrations > Slack and click Disconnect. This revokes the OAuth tokens and removes the WorkClaw bot from your Slack workspace. Existing channel bindings and handle settings are preserved in WorkClaw in case you reconnect later.
