Slack Channel Bindings
Bind your WorkClaw Claw to specific Slack channels so it can listen, respond, and participate in team conversations automatically.
What is a channel binding?
A channel binding links your Claw to a specific Slack channel. Once bound, the Claw can read messages in that channel and respond when mentioned or when configured to respond to all messages. Without a binding, the Claw ignores messages in that channel entirely.
How do I bind a channel?
- Navigate to Settings > Integrations > Slack > Channels.
- Click Add Channel.
- Select the Slack channel from the dropdown. Both public and private channels appear if the WorkClaw bot has been invited to them.
- Choose a response mode:
- Mention only -- the Claw responds only when @mentioned.
- All messages -- the Claw responds to every message in the channel. Best for dedicated agent channels.
- Click Save.
The Claw begins listening in the channel immediately.
How many channels can I bind?
There is no hard limit on the number of channel bindings. However, binding a Claw to many high-traffic channels in "all messages" mode can increase your message usage significantly. Monitor your usage under Billing.
Can I bind a Claw to a private channel?
Yes, but the WorkClaw bot must first be invited to the private channel by a channel member. Once invited, the channel appears in the binding dropdown. The Claw only accesses messages posted after the binding is created -- it cannot read historical messages.
How do I change the response mode for a bound channel?
Go to Settings > Integrations > Slack > Channels, find the channel in the list, and click Edit. Switch between "Mention only" and "All messages" mode. The change takes effect immediately.
How do I unbind a channel?
From the channels list, click Remove next to the channel you want to unbind. The Claw stops listening in that channel immediately. Message history from that channel is retained in the Claw's activity log for reference.
How does the Claw behave in threads?
When a user starts a thread in a bound channel and mentions the Claw, it responds within the thread. Subsequent messages in the same thread are treated as a continued conversation, so the Claw maintains context without requiring repeated mentions.
