Skills Overview
Learn how Skills extend your Claw's capabilities. Explore the three skill types, browse the marketplace, and discover popular packs for common workflows.
What are Skills?
Skills are modular capability packages that extend what your Claw can do. Think of them as apps for your AI agent — each skill teaches your Claw a specific ability, from sending emails to managing project boards. You install skills per-Claw through the Skills marketplace, giving you fine-grained control over each agent's capabilities.
How do the three skill types differ?
WorkClaw organizes skills into three categories based on who creates and maintains them:
- System skills ship with WorkClaw and are maintained by the WorkClaw team. They cover foundational capabilities like web research, file management, and basic communication. Every Claw has access to system skills by default.
- Third-party skills are built by external developers and published to the marketplace. These integrate with popular tools and services — Gmail, Calendar Sync, Slack, Linear, Notion, HubSpot, and more. Each listing includes reviews, version history, and required connections.
- Team skills are created by your organization for internal use. They encode your team's specific workflows, templates, and business logic. See How to Create Custom Skills to get started.
What skills are available in the marketplace?
The marketplace offers a growing library of skills across several categories. Some of the most popular include:
| Skill | Category | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Gmail | Communication | Draft, send, and manage emails |
| Calendar Sync | Productivity | Create events, check availability, send invites |
| Slack | Communication | Post messages, read channels, respond to threads |
| Linear | Project Management | Create issues, update status, query backlogs |
| Research Assistant | Knowledge | Deep web research with source citations |
| Document Writer | Content | Generate reports, proposals, and briefs |

What are Skill Packs?
Skill Packs bundle related skills into a single install. Instead of adding Gmail, Calendar Sync, and Google Drive individually, you can install the Google Workspace Pack and get all three configured together. Packs also handle shared requirements so you only authorize once. Learn more in What are Skill Packs?.
How do skills interact with connections?
Most skills require at least one connection to function. When you install a skill, WorkClaw checks whether the necessary connections exist and prompts you to set them up if they don't. You can review connection requirements before installing any skill from its marketplace listing.
